I really fell in love with the sound of the mandolin when I heard the David Grisman Quintet. I built my first Mandolin at Pattison Stringed Instruments in 1980, out of personal curiosity and subsequently by request. I have built ‘A’ style and ‘F’ style as well as flat top with carved back mandos but am drawn to the clean shape of an ‘A’ style and the sweet sound they produce. My studio of stringed instruments has 30 plus years of history in the creating and building…not only the status quo….but, pieces that are unique and one of a kind. It is my attention to the fine details that complete the artistic craftsmanship and upon completion allow these pieces to be timeless and in some cases, have become family heirlooms. All of my instruments are individually hand crafted by me from designing, selecting all the materials, hand shaping the parts, inlaying and applying the finishes. Established in 2002, we feel grateful every day to be creating playable works of art, drawing inspiration from places old and new. The artistry isn’t merely in the execution, it’s also in the ideas themselves – our customers’ and our own – and in that we strive to be ever changing and evolving. Each of our banjos is handmade and unique, with just enough innovation to provide a tasteful alternative to the rest. Custom orders are the norm for us. As a builder, long-time player, and enthusiast of all things banjo, Jason is always thinking of the banjo’s design and sound. After studying as a cabinetmaker and fine woodworker, he began working with the Wildwood Banjo Co.in Arcata, CA., as well as P.W. Crump Instruments and Clinesmith Guitars. Working in these shops and building a variety of instruments rounded out his experience as a luthier and developed a strong sense of instrument craftsmanship and skilled efficiency. Pharis, a graphic designer and musician by trade, joined the banjo workshop in 2007 after they married. She has since taken over the majority of the inlay and graphic design part of the business. Over the last decade we have built a catalogue of unique instruments for our customers focusing on tone, playability, fit and finish. We have blended the elements of these custom builds into our selection of standard models. After a period of time away from building instruments, Bill was inspired to start building Canadian made banjos again after a serious motorcycle accident. The outpouring of support from our local music community was the spark for Rickard Banjos. We are driven by a passion for traditional music and the arts. | County Banjo Company builds a variety of banjo models. Pick and choose from a wide array of specs & options to create your own unique, one-of-a-kind banjo.
Ordering Terms: An initial, non refundable deposit is required for all orders. The deposit confirms your specific place on the build list and is spent on materials required for your build. Warranty: Each instrument comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty to the original owner (as long as you still own the banjo and as long as we’re still building banjos). If one of our banjos cracks, splits or comes apart on its own (without help in anyway) we will make it right. The instrument will be repaired or replaced at our discretion. Strings, finish wear, tuners, heads, damage from drops or improper handling, exposure to weather or temperature extremes etc are not covered. Part of the banjos made in Canada directory.
