With it becoming increasingly difficult for small farms to get shelf space at grocery stores, they learned how to turn their fresh apples into cider and spirits. Now they share their produce with Canada by creating sustainable and locally made ciders and spirits the community can enjoy and feel good about purchasing. At Steinhart Distillery the mash is distilled batch by batch in our handmade, all copper still. The first distillation is considered the stripping run, where we separate the drinking alcohol, the hearts, from the rest of the mash (heads and tails). The next distillation is considered the ‘rectification run’ where you very carefully separate the last impurities (heads and tails) from your drinking alcohol. The resulting product will be around 95% abv (190 proof). At this point this will be diluted with best Nova Scotian spring water to 40% abv (80 proof) drinking strength. No chemicals will be added, like so many of the mass produced vodkas sold. Good vodka has to have somewhat of a little burn which should not linger. If vodka is too smooth, that is a result of chemicals, such as glycerin, citric acid, or sugar. If the burn lasts that is a sign of poor vodka (cheap ass crappy stuff sold in plastic gallon jugs). | Spread over several acres, Minhas Sask has three locations, at 435 McDonald St and 444 McLeod St in Regina and at 602 51 St in Saskatoon. Both cities contain a Gift Shop, off-sales retail store and distribution centre which includes brandy made in Canada. Minhas Sask has the largest fleet of its own vehicles operating from 2 distribution centre and 4 warehouses, delivering our products to each and every city or town in Saskatchewan on a weekly basis. We do not just use these as marketing slogans, we live them every day. The theme and designs of all our products highlight the rich and beautiful province of Saskatchewan. Here are examples of some of the hyper-local brand names we produce: Wascana Creek Gin, Sask Prairie Vodka and Whisky, Taylor Field Vodka, Craven RTD’s, Moosejaw Apple-pie Moonshine, Kamsack Brandy and of course, Top 20 Sask Cities Vodka. Welcome to Deep Roots Distillery! Owned and operated by Mike and Carol Beamish, we are a family-run small-batch craft distillery located in Warren Grove, Prince Edward Island. Our distillery started to take root in 1990 when we planted our first 200 apple trees. By 1995 we had two acres of trees and decided to open up our own u-pick. At Ironworks Distillery we take enormous pride in creating our products. Our vodka is made from Nova Scotia apples, and is unique in Canada. Our gin includes local juniper berries and numerous Nova Scotia sourced botanicals, including rosehips from a hedge down the street. Our Pear-eau-de-vie with a pear in the bottle is perhaps the product that best reflects our commitment to local ingredients. Each spring we put 400-500 bottles in the pear trees of the Boates Farm in Woodville; each fall we harvest full-grown pears in the bottles and fill each bottle with distilled pear brandy from the previous season.
