Canadian shoes were actually in the form of Moccasins and first made in the 1700's. The evolution of shoes in Canada shifted from using moose hair and porcupine quill to using sealskin, leather and then of course synthetic products. Canada has a history in boots and shoes that were in some cases attached to snowshoes. The first shoe store was in Toronto where shoes that were manufactured to size were available instantly rather than being individually made. The demand to keep them on the shelves was the beginning of imported shoes from the United states.
