At Ash Gears Canada we choose 15n20 to pair with 1095 to create pattern welded Damascus steel, it makes up the beautiful layers in the pattern, as the nickel in the steel resists the ferric chloride we use to etch blades. Using Historically common methods gives it proper heat treat on both counts for the blade to get a deeper solidification also less likely to grain growth. Various forms of steel folded together repeatedly making the blade manifest great stability and sharpness, unique patterns are formed by the layers of metal. Our 15n20 is high carbon-high nickel steel that’s famous for its high toughness plus versatility.
