Fromagerie St-Laurent – Born on August 14, 1920, in Luceville near Rimouski, Maurice Saint-Laurent was the third in a family of nine children. His parents, Auguste Saint-Laurent and Eléonore Mongrain, were merchants. In the 1930s, Auguste Saint-Laurent decided to leave Gaspésie to settle in Lac St-Jean, a prosperous territory full of promise. He abandoned the business and chose to buy a few row cheese dairies in Lac St-Jean. In all, he will acquire five.

Mr. Saint-Laurent left behind a successful business. Today, it employs 60 people full time. Fromagerie St-Laurent processes millions of liters of milk per year and is one of the two largest cheese factories in Lac St-Jean. It is his sons, Luc, Yves and François, who see to the company’s prosperity today. They are as proud as their father to see the family cheese on the tables of families here.
