I am Josephine Clarke Textiles, a textile artist practicing in West Arichat, Nova Scotia. I explore the use and tradition of botanical dyes, earth pigments, and rust. During my childhood in the Robson valley in BC, I was surrounded by people who made things in their daily lives. I accredit my creative style as an artist to growing up in a community that fished, hunted, gardened, sewed, and made music.
After earning my Bachelor of Design at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, I was accepted as an artist in residence with the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design. I took a chance, and moved to the east coast to the beautiful island of Cape Breton, and I have been practicing as an artist ever since. Im proud of my small studio by the Atlantic Ocean.
