I am Kalika Bowlby, a studio potter focused on functionality and quiet simplicity. It is all about the subtleties of form, glaze texture and color. I love that the things I make become part of daily life, whether it is the ritual of morning coffee or celebratory feasts with friends and family. Each object is made by hand from concept to completion, including glaze and colour development, in my home-based studio in the Rocky Mountains of Golden, BC.
The pots I make are informed by use and inspired by the natural world. I love to grow, prepare and share food and this directly influences my time in the studio. The textures, colours and forms I encounter while spending time in the mountains find their way into my work-river rock glaze surfaces, wild flower colors and the curves and angles of rocks and mountains. I love quiet, gentle pots that contain a touch of magic.
