William (Bill) Okos of William Okos Laughing Tree Guitars is a luthier in Summerland, BC specializing in handmade musical instruments as well as in complete repairs, restorations and setups on guitars, mandolins, violins, and basses, to name but a few. Bill is a journeyman automotive machinist and mechanic by trade, and working in a “high accuracy” environment has always been of great interest to him throughout his life. This is evidenced by his precision and artistry in every instrument that he creates.
His musical career began at age seven with the accordion and he later switched over to guitar at age ten. In addition to having sung and played guitar in numerous bands over the years, Bill also played at many a kitchen-tables and camp-fire jams.
Musical instrument repairs and restorations account for much of the business in the shop. Professional musicians, and hobbyists alike as well as the local school district all trust Bill with their instruments for setups, repairs and even complete restorations. To this point, Bill has even completed detailed restoration work on instruments dating as far back as the 1700s!
