In 1981, Peggy Byron opened Boutique Au Lit Fine Linens in Montreal, one of the first bed linen shops in Canada to offer pure cotton sheets instead of treated polyester. The store was an instant success, with people lining up outside the 700-square-foot store. Soon Byron expanded the business to include a factory where she manufactured her own collection of linens. Fifteen years later, Byron moved the retail end of the business to Toronto, where she would eventually take over a store almost ten times the size of her first! Most of the bedding is made in dedicated factories in Montreal and Toronto. They will be clearly marked. Products:

The rayon from bamboo fiber in all our products are Oeko-Tex 100 certified, and is made from OCIA & USDA-certified organically grown bamboo. The organic cotton in our products are also OCIA-certified. All our products at Bamboobino are made in Vancouver except our socks, crib sheets and pandas, which are sourced ethically in Asia. The journey to starting this shop has been long and somewhat convoluted but the shop is finally open. Along the way I studied art and design and was fascinated by colour and how the combination and proportion of colours used combine to create different effects and evoke different feelings. I have always loved to sew, and was introduced to quilting by my cousin Karen who made a beautiful Christmas tree skirt that still wraps the family tree at Christmas time. I started quilting in earnest when my children were young making quilts for them and the new baby cousins that started to arrive. Life took a turn and I didn’t open my sewing machine for another 10 years. Once I did I started to play with ideas for a business, made some products and started selling at small local craft shows. This was an invaluable experience that helped shape my business plan and renew my commitment to make quality products that people could use in their everyday life and sell them at a reasonable prices. Trends come and go but attractive, well-made products stand the test of time. At bed we’ve been making sheets in Vancouver since 1999 and we like to think that reflects well on us.
