Fort Liard, NWT
With a rich history and culture dating back more than 50,000 years, Aboriginal people have fascinating stories to tell.
Hand made smoked moosehide mukluks designed and created by skilled artists in Fort Liard. Most pairs of mukluks have hand beaded designs on the uppers and on the sides of the boot. Rabbit or beaver fur sides keep your feet toasty warm in the winter. Each pair is one of a kind and quantities are limited due to the amount of time it takes to craft these pieces of art.
In the heart of the Deh Cho live the Deh Gah Gotie Dene (people who live by the river). The Deh Cho is located in the Northwest Territories. The Dene people are keepers of the land and so the Deh Cho Process is all about conservation and maintaining the land. This is what makes the Process unique compared to other aboriginal treaties across Canada.
