Prairie Garden Seeds has been Jim Ternier’s baby for many years, but it has evolved over the years to involve, mostly, various family members. Marie-Louise (mom and wife) has been involved working on the layout of the paper catalogue every year (which Rachelle has now taken over) as Jim’s computer skills aren’t great. David, Daniel and Rachelle as kids all grew seeds at one point or another, and now Rachelle is currently partnering with Jim (daughter and father) to take over the family business. The other main partners involved in Prairie Garden Seeds are Jim’s sister Judy, who lives, with her family, at the family farm by Murray lake, where a lot of the seeds are grown, and recently, Janice Sanford-Beck, also living at the family farm with her family. The heirloom seed farm was started in 1995. Marsha has acted as a Farm manager for 2 other local organic farms from 1994-1995 and from 2007-2009 and still carries out an active landscape and farm consultation service. She is also the Founding Director of The Salt Spring Sanctuary Society, started in 2002. We are active members of the local Farmers Institute and The Garden Club. Atlantic Pepper Seeds has been growing Chilli Peppers since 2001. We have developed several exciting new varieties over the years that are well suited for cooler climates, We also have a number of new superhot varieties we have developed as well. We have strived to bring rare and exotic varieties together from around the world to one place. We grow out of our own love of peppers and the excitement of tasting new varieties. All of our pepper plants are grown organically without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers allowing us to offer the best quality seeds possible. We isolate all of our plants in seed production in order to guarantee the best genetics. We grow all the varieties that we sell. So we always have fresh seeds that have high germination rates. Harmonic Herbs is pleased to offer our Norseed brand of seeds. What started long ago as a hobby turned into our main focus, and a microSeedery was born. We produce and procure seed on a very small scale and share the best vegetables and exotic botanicals that we love to grow. And we select hard for regional adaptability to short season (Zone 3) conditions, such as we enjoy in Central Alberta. 2018 was a challenging year for us in terms of seed production, with the forest fire smoke in the air messing with the spectral frequencies of light needed for plant maturation, and some early snow in September. At mumm’s Sprouting Seeds we have been farming organically since the 1970s, and selling high quality organic sprouting seed for over 30 years. The farm is located near Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, Canada and through our warehouse located in Parkside, Saskatchewan we can ship anywhere in Canada or the US. We also export overseas. Our sprouting seed business kept growing and growing and by the mid 1990’s it was more than we could handle, so we took the big step of expanding our team. When Ernie began there were very few nut trees available and little was known about the potential for nut crops in Ontario. As a result Ernie decided to use his land to set up test orchards to evaluate the best nut trees that would grow in the Niagara region. Getting help from experienced growers and local pioneers, he was able to get grafted cultivars and seedling sources from across North America as well as from the commercial nut growing regions around the world. These trees are grown and tested for their individual nut quality. Each tree is evaluated yearly on several factors including flavour, hardiness, productivity, commercial viability, cracking ability, and disease resistance. We have hundreds of promising trees growing from our own seed as well as the best selections sent from other growers for us to test in our location. At A’Bunadh Seeds we are small seed growers in Northwest Alberta. We grow in a 90-120 Day frost-free window in the summer. I get asked, what kind of things can you grow then? (Many laughs, tongue in cheek). We have, as you can see from our catalogue, adapted. Our seeds are grown here, on our Certified Organic land (TCO Cert is our certification body). The seeds are not certified, however, as I have yet to make time for the paperwork required.
